For the first zine project of this class, I was thinking about making something personal. Well personal as in something relating to one of my interests like many zines I have seen. When I was still trying to come up with an idea in class while seeing all the other past students' zines, I thought maybe video games, nature stuff, or something more abstract. But then it hit me and I’m not sure how I didn’t see this sooner. Film! It made the most sense since I am a Film major. So then came the next part where I had to figure out what part of movies I wanted to base this zine on. I started racking my brain and then I remembered this one social media trend where the caption would be “(Name of film) is: (color)” and then it would show shots from that film that followed a color palette of that color. I liked that idea so then I had to figure out how to convert that into zine format. I was thinking about having each page of the zine be a different color and then finding shots from different films that had that color palette. But then I realized after talking to the professor that I probably shouldn’t include straight-up still shots from movies so instead we settled on making a collage of similar colored objects, characters, and locations from different movies. This does seem like the best idea since then the zine won't be so blocky and uniform. Instead, it will have a more abstract structure but also follow a set of rules (the color). I'm excited to start getting reference material.
