I think that the internet was extremely valuable to the art world in creating a new medium for art to be shown and created in ways that have never been done before. This leap in technology was a serious landmark that will be remembered by generations as the time that art went on the web. They discussed in the article concerns that it would be too cluttered with all the corporate advertising and political stuff being put on the web in the early days to the point where it would be hard to find the artwork, which I kind of agree with even today. Corporations have taken over the internet, putting ads everywhere they can and making it very hard to find actual web art. That also makes sense as to why the art was mostly being done by the Europeans and Russians since they had a better chance of having the art be accessible for people to see. But like I said before, I think that is still relevant today. Almost everything on the internet is controlled by corporations now so it is impossible to see anything on the internet without also coming across some type of corporate or political advertising. It’s very unfortunate that I was unable to see the early days of the web. It must have been a lot less cluttered than it is now. If I want to find art now then I have to know exactly where to find it and how to avoid all the other BS that is online. But I think as we evolve technologically, the art scene will change again and I will experience the early days of some type of medium not yet realized. It kind of did already happen with VR so maybe something will stem from that.
